FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT INSTALLATION ISSUES

• What’s the first thing I should do before connecting the Series 3000 to my network?
To avoid conflicts with IPs in use, you must assign an unused IP address to the S3K before connecting it to your network.

• Does the S3K use DHCP to obtain an IP from a Server?
No, the S3K requires a fixed IP address.

• My Server assigns the PC’s IP addresses by means of the DHCP protocol. Do I need to reserve an address space for use by the S3Ks?
Yes. Please contact your network administrator.

• How do I assign an IP address and a Port number to a S3K?
The S3K does not have a factory assigned IP address, so, usually the first time you power it up, the S3K will request an IP address and Port number.
It’s not advisable to change the port number unless there’s a conflict with other software in use in your network and your S3K software supports changing the port.

• How do I edit an S3K’s IP address?
While in IP edition mode the only active keys are OK, Cancel and 0 to 9.
Pressing OK will advance the cursor to the next field.
Pressing OK over the last field will request confirmation to save the new values to non-volatile memory.
Pressing Cancel over a field will clear it to 000.
Pressing Cancel over a 000 field will move the cursor to the previous field.
Pressing Cancel over the first field after it has been cleared to 000 will allow you to cancel all changes.

• How do I change an S3K’s IP address?
Power down the S3K and power it up while holding a key down. The S3K will enter IP edition mode.

• Is there any other setting I need to change in my host PC to make the S3K work?
If you have a firewall, you need to create a rule that will allow communications with the S3K. The default Ports on which you need to allow communications are 11181 and 11182.

• Is there a way to know if the S3K is connected correctly?
The S3K responds to the “PING” command even while offline; you can “PING” it anytime to verify that it’s responding properly.

• I can’t find where to set the subnet mask in the S3K, how do I set it?
You don’t need to. The S3K will only work in the same subnet as the host, so you don’t need to set one.

• After the S3K local Port has been set, how do I set the remote (host) port?
You don’t need to; the S3K will automatically respond to the port used by the host.

• What connections are needed to attach a Series 3000 device to a network?
The power and LAN are the only required connections; all other connections, including the door opener are optional.

• Where do I find Biometrix Series 3000’s MAC address?
You can find the MAC address on the identification label attached to the back-plate of the device.

• Where do I find Biometrix Series 3000’s serial number?
The S3K’s MAC address “is” the serial number.

• Does each Biometrix Series 3000 device have a unique MAC address?
Yes. All Ethernet devices have a unique MAC address which has been assigned by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

• Does Biometrix Series 3000 device include a power supply?
No. The only exceptions are for devices bundled with SDKs (Software Developer Kits).

• What kind of power supply should be used with Biometrix Series 3000 devices?
Biometrix Series 3000 units use a 9 to 12 volts DC, 500mA power supply. A 9 volts power supply is recommended for high temperature environments.

• How can I adjust the contrast on Biometrix Series 3000’s LCD display?
The contrast has been factory-calibrated. Should you need to change it, you can use a small screwdriver to adjust it. Please refer to the manual to identify the contrast calibration preset.

• What is the small switch on the back of the Biometrix Series 3000’s case and what is it for?
It’s a tamper detection micro switch. The S3K, while powered and on-line, will inform the Host when it is removed from the wall or its lid is opened, by sensing these changes through the switch.
